A camping chair dimension is useful only when the measurement points and sample condition are clear. Seat height, depth and width can be reported differently by different suppliers, especially on fabric seats. Before comparing figures, agree how each dimension will be recorded.
This buyer’s measurement sheet provides blank fields and a review method. It does not specify recommended body dimensions, ergonomic targets, load limits or values for an ONWAY model. Your product team should set the required dimensions for the intended users and use case.
Define the chair and its setup first
Identify the model, sample revision and configuration. Record whether removable cushions, accessories or adjustable parts are fitted, and which adjustment position is being measured. Use the product’s instructions to set up the chair correctly; do not invent a new position to obtain a preferred measurement.
State the measurement surface and instrument. Label the reference points on a photograph or drawing so a second reviewer can repeat the same measurement. A dimension without this record can conceal a disagreement about where the measurement begins and ends.
Seat height: choose the point on the seat
Do not use “seat height” as an unexplained single field. Mark the point on the seat being measured relative to the supporting surface. If front-edge height and another point are important, give them separate names and record each one. Avoid comparing a rigid frame point with a fabric seat point as though they were the same measurement.
For a flexible seat, distinguish unloaded readings from measurements taken under an agreed loaded condition. Never add a person or a test load to an unverified sample simply to fill this sheet. Any loaded measurement needs a suitable procedure and an appropriately assessed sample, agreed with the responsible specialists.
Seat depth: distinguish the panel from the usable seating area
Mark the front and rear reference points. A fabric panel length, a horizontal measurement and a measurement following the surface may not describe the same thing. Choose the method that answers the product requirement and write it beside the value.
If a back panel, cushion or recline setting changes the usable space, identify that configuration. Keep the drawn dimension and the measured sample result in separate columns instead of silently replacing one with the other.
Seat width: name what is between the endpoints
State whether width means the fabric panel, clear space between armrests or another defined span. Do not substitute the overall external chair width for the seat width. When the intended requirement concerns clearance, mark the relevant boundary points rather than relying on the model’s headline dimensions.
Blank measurement and approval sheet
| Field | Agreed reference / method | Target and tolerance | Sample result | Decision |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Seat height at named point | To complete; add drawing mark | Project team to define | To measure | Pending |
| Seat depth | Endpoints and measurement direction | Project team to define | To measure | Pending |
| Seat width | Panel / clear space / other named span | Project team to define | To measure | Pending |
| Overall open dimensions | Configuration and outermost points | Project team to define | To measure | Pending |
| Folded dimensions | Folding state and included components | Project team to define | To measure | Pending |
Attach the sample identifier, drawing revision, measurement date, reviewer, instrument and condition record. Use a consistent unit, and label any converted values. No tolerance is supplied here: acceptance limits must be agreed for the project rather than inferred from this template.
Resolve disagreement before signing off
If supplier and buyer readings differ, compare reference points and conditions before asking for a redesign. Repeat the agreed measurement where appropriate, document the difference and assign a decision owner. Distinguish measurement disagreement from a confirmed specification deviation.
After approval, retain the marked image and measurement record with the technical pack. A later change to fabric, cushion, geometry or adjustment position should identify which recorded dimensions need another review. The sample approval guide explains how to keep revisions traceable.
Use the chair catalogue to shortlist formats, then send the measurement sheet with your inquiry. If your question concerns capacity rather than dimensions, request the separate evidence described in the weight-capacity guide.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard seat height for a camping chair?
This sheet does not prescribe a universal height. Define the intended users and use case, then agree the target, reference point and measurement condition for the specific project.
Should I measure a fabric seat loaded or unloaded?
Record the agreed condition explicitly. If a loaded measurement is required, have the responsible specialists define a suitable procedure for an appropriately assessed sample; do not improvise a load.
Is overall chair width the same as seat width?
No. Identify whether the required span is the fabric panel, clear space between armrests or another defined width, and mark the endpoints on a drawing.
What belongs in a dimension approval record?
Include sample and drawing revisions, configuration, reference points, units, method, agreed targets and tolerances, measured results, reviewer and unresolved deviations.
